ABOUT US
People of Progress(POP) is an organization serving the needs of the community. Freedom church is among the many services offered by POP.
Freedom church is a Progressive Christian Church: a form of Christianity which is characterized by a willingness to question tradition, acceptance of human diversity, a strong emphasis on social justice, care for the poor and the oppressed, and environmental stewardship of the Earth.
Omnism: While our foundation is Christian based we acknowledge commonalities among different faiths, and focus on what is good for all people in general.
Inclusion: We do not proclaim that there are people not accepted by God whose spirits are condemned for eternity. We have differences in cultures, religions and lifestyles nonetheless we are all creations living among one another here on earth. We believe that Gods love is not conditional nor is our primary existence to be critiqued in order to have spiritual life after death.
Environmentally Proactive: One primary source of our life and existence is the earth we live on therefore we believe it is our responsibility to live and promote lifestyles that cater to the environment and will maintain it for future generations.
Socially Proactive: As an organization dedicated to people, we learn the hardships and patterns that face communities and strive to fight against them and make change for the future.
Freedom Church is non-denominational. We believe that separation is un-beneficial as a people and we are stronger together. We acknowledge and celebrate the differences among us and strive to meet the needs of every attendee and Partner.
We are doers. We recognize areas for improvement within ourselves, the organization and the community and evaluate our capabilities to make changes and make them.
Doctrine
Freedom church acknowledges that the Bible is a collection of teaching and instruction, historical recollections, stories, songs, recounts of the life of Jesus and beliefs about God and the spiritual realm. We believe they are the foundation of Christianity, what it is built upon and the primary resource for guidance and education.
We uphold a presupposition that like all things put together by man we receive each text with consideration. Acknowledging that while there is divine inspiration in the text, that it was formed, transcribed and translated at the hands of human beings. We take all spiritual connections and scriptures as it applies to the bettering, growth, maturation and encouragement of us as observers and readers. We believe that while there are many connections we have to the after life/non-physical realm, we do not claim these connections as unquestionable facts but instead as personal and a part of individual walks of faith. We receive the Bible in its true context and apply the scripture in the most fact based way. We use many resources to grow as people to include positive beliefs from other faiths, mental health studies and scientific facts. While we don’t condemn people, we issue guidance based on wisdom, life experience, known risks and best judgement. We believe that as a family love also comes in the form of honesty and correction.
Freedom church is unique in the fact that its Partners and Attendees are allowed the freedom to pursue their own individual walk of faith. Differences of opinions, views and beliefs are tolerated and considered a valued form of diversity. We believe that some doctrine and regulations have divided humanity and created hate and intolerance among people. We refute man-made regulations, rituals and false declarations that suppress people and we instead promote messages of inspiration and growth. We believe that sacraments such as communion, baptism etc. are symbolic and can be a good way to signify change in peoples lives or pay tribute to our beliefs. We do not factually tie these acts to spiritual salvation. It is the personal belief of those participating and we allow that freedom.
